How to Make Your Website SEO Friendly

Your website needs to be search-engine friendly, or SEO friendly. This means that your website design, content management system, menus, videos, images, text, shopping carts, and other elements should be fully optimized for sufficient exposure since being on the first page of a search engine result makes it more likely for Internet users to click on your site.

Some people think that pay-per-click (PPC) schemes can get them on page one easily. But considering that only 10 percent of Internet users actually click on PPCs, this can often be an ineffective idea. The other 90 percent rely heavily on organic results. But you do not have to worry because it is relatively easy to make your site SEO friendly.

First, use proper and relevant page titles rather than generic ones. For example, having your home page title written as “ABC Southern-Style Bread and Breakfast” allows website crawlers to mark and index it as relevant rather than “ABC Home Page.” Next, include keywords in your site description. If possible, include all relevant keywords in your description such as “ABC Southern-Style Bread and Breakfast. We specialize in giving you comfortable, classy but cheap bed and breakfast accommodation.” Of course, you need to check the relevancy of your keywords or phrases first before actually using them.

If you have images, videos, or other graphics in your site, use an alt attribute that incorporates relevant keywords so that the crawlers will see a description of the graphic rather than a blank space. This requires a bit of knowledge of hypertext mark-up language, or HTML. Alternatively, you can simply write a caption that contains a keyword.

If you plan to incorporate flash video or graphics, do it sparingly. Flash may be attractive to viewers, but they do not have any value for crawlers, which only see a blank space. Finally, remember that content is essential. No matter how keyword-rich your text is, if it is insufficient in quantity, it has no SEO value. Summing it all up, a proper mix of page titles, descriptions, alt attributes, and keywords or phrases heightens your site’s chances for lucrative visibility.
